The Hurricane
... is a group of raiders led by Trippy of <Knights of Arcadia>. Until July of '07, the Hurricane was a PAA raid. Due to disagreements with PAA leadership, a large amount of Hurricane raiders separated from the PAA to form <The Hurricane>. Today, the Hurricane raid consists of <The Hurricane> guild members as well as PAA members, and is still active in endgame raiding.
History
The Hurricane was formed in early 2006, initially as a weekly Onyxia no-AP run. It was started in response to the shortcomings of the Onyxia AP system, as well as to a PAA raiding ban on Trippy, the raid leader. The Hurricane was initially greatly populated by <Knights of Arcadia> members, but with many members from all PAA guilds on the regular roster. Several Hurricane raiders were and are officers of <KOA>, and some members of the Hurricane were given officer status due to their leadership in the raid.
The Hurricane subsequently progressed to Blackwing Lair, and became the third PAA raid to clear the instance (after Flavour Country and Terrible Swift Sword), with Nefarian dying in July of 2006. Further raids were taken into The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas, with bosses dying in each before the release of The Burning Crusade.
In early summer of 2007, the Hurricane raid was the first applicant to seek the right to become a new PAA guild. As a result of delays, arguments, and miscommunication between PAA and Hurricane leadership, the Hurricane ultimately decided to withdraw their application and form <The Hurricane>, a non-PAA affiliated guild.
Today, the Hurricane guild has a membership of over 100 and is still active and raiding endgame Burning Crusade instances. Though no longer a PAA guild, many PAA members and officers continue to raid with the Hurricane.
Current Progression
As of 2008, The Hurricane has repeatedly cleared Karazhan and Zul'Aman in their entirety.
The Hurricane currently has the entirety of Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair on farm status.
The Hurricane has cleared 3/4 bosses in Tempest Keep: The Eye, with only Kael'Thas Sunstrider remaining.
The Hurricane has cleared 5/6 bosses in Serpentshrine Cavern, with only Lady Vashj remaining.
Vanilla Progression
In Vanilla progression, the Hurricane had the following instances on farm, completely cleared:
The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj was also attempted by The Hurricane, and all main bosses save C'Thun were killed. The Bug Family optional bosses were also downed.
The Hurricane never made significant progression into Naxxramas, but did manage to down Instructor Razuvious before The Burning Crusade.
Raiding Culture
The Hurricane's raiding culture is unique. For much of its history, The Hurricane did not use a DKP system, instead opting for rotations, random rolling, and infrequent loot councils to determine loot distribution. The Hurricane eventually adopted a DKP system as progression continued in the Burning Crusade endgame.
The Hurricane also eschewed using tried strategies, often developing their own on different boss encounters, sometimes on the fly. Notable among these were the "Ebonroc pull" and "Death From Above" on the Snake Boss in Zul'Gurub.
The Hurricane also did not mandate raiding specs, opting instead to allow players to raid in whatever spec they wanted, except in cases of extreme need. Beast Mastery hunters, Subtlety rogues, and Protection paladins were common.
